First Robotics Competition or FRC was started in New Hampshire in 1989 by Dean Kamen. It has since developed into an international competition with hundreds of teams.
Each year FRC gives out a different competition. Students must perform tasks such as climbing a pyramid or shooting Frisbees into different goals. Teams get 6 weeks to build a robot that is able to perform the given task. That time is normally referred to as build season. After the 6 weeks is up the robot must be "bagged and tagged", put in a bag where students can not touch it before the competition. The competition is normally in March or April.
FRC is an organization designed to inspire youth to engage in science and technology, through robotics. Another goal is for students to become leaders in engineering and develop building skills. The mission is to teach young people how to work in a team learning to communicate and become confident. FRC helps high school students make their own engineering dreams come true. Philosophies such as Gracious Professionalism and Co-Opertition are greatly emphasized
